I was considering to purchase this product until I looked at the service plans offered. My sprint air-card cost $59 per month and the amount of data used per month is unlimited. This device cost $59 per month and only gives you 5GB of data per month. That may seem like allot but if you are streaming video and playing any online games you can use that in a week. Also I never had any problems with my Sprint air-card loosing its connection while driving. There are devices on the market that can make your air-card a Wi-Fi Hot Spot. If they offered a unlimited data plan for $59 per month I would purchase this device but until then I’m sticking with my Sprint air-card.

Nothing special about this router. There’re many routers out there that allows you to use you data enabled GSM 3G sim card, with a fraction of the price.
Also there’s more than one application that helps you turn your 3G mobile phone into a Hotspot! I’ve tried one, it’s very easy to use.
Here’re a couple of the top of my mind:

In my opinion, this device was dead upon conception. Both Sprint and Verizon (whose network this device uses) offer the MiFi device which is actually portable and fits in a shirt pocket, can run on batteries, and if you are willing to enter into a contract, is less expensive.
The Autonet router does not even support WPA encryption. It is also not designed or intended to be used outside of a vehicle, so if you install it in your car and are on the 5th floor of the Hilton while your car is in the parking garage, no Internet for you! I suppose if you are tied to your vehicle and are within the operating radius of the device most of the time this device may offer performance and convenience benefits compared to a more portable unit, but the market for a subscription service that is tied to a vehicle seems small. A removable CDMA radio module that could be pulled from this unit and inserted into a more travel-friendly form factor would be ideal and would eliminate the issues of the unit being “stuck” in a car (you heard it here first, folks).
Notes based on comments to this review:
The claim regarding no support for WPA was taken from the company website (the FAQ page) the day this review was originally published. As of Jun 29 2009, it still says “Your WiFi connection is secured with WEP encryption… WPA2 will be available in a few months.”
To be fair, I do not own and have not used this product – but I am highly suspect of several of the reviews on this site that: 1. All provided glowing reviews on the same day, and 2. Were posted from users who have generally posted only one product review and who ALL live in the San Francisco Bay Area, home of the company who makes this device. Any positive impressions of the product are hampered by what appears to be manipulation of reviews. I’ll let the readers draw their own conclusions.

Horrible item , I have it for five days and I’m still not able to connect to the internet here in Phoenix… their costumer support is even worst, they dont hire enough people to answer the phone, try calling them and you’ll have to wait over half an hour before you can talk to them only for someone to write my phone number down and told me that they are working on that same issue because lots of people have same problem and they will call me back as soon as possible… it has been almost 4 days and nobody has called me back, I still have no internet access…. At this very moment I have been waiting for 55 minutes in the phone on hold in order to speak to their costumer service rep…. I am really getting to the point where I want to sen their unit back for a full refund…. and cancel my two year agreement with them.

Been using Autonet for several months now and it works great all the time. I recently went on a 450 mile trip and never lost connection. I had internet service the complete way. Works better than my Verizon broadband mobile USB. It seems to stay connected all the time while the Verizon USB adaptor sometimes loses signal.
